Crypto Daily Participates in Run for Light Event Singapore

Crypto Daily participated in the 2019 Run for Light event that was held on the 26th of January 2019 at Singapore’s Punggol Waterway Park. The event, which consisted of three races in total, was held to raise money for a local charity providing guide dogs to those who are suffering with blindness and challenges to their vision. The name Run for Light refers to how the charity brings light to individuals dealing with sight issues.

Events

There were three individual events held over the course of the Run for Light day between 4pm and 10pm. A blindfold pairs walk of 1 kilometre was the first race of the day, followed by the main competitive 10 kilometre run flagging off at 5:30pm. Half an hour later the 5 kilometre fun runners set off, with warm up and cool down sessions led by instructors before and after each race. Each participant is provided in advance with a race entry pack containing everything they will need, including a running t-shirt and special race identifier among other things.

Entry fees were set for each race individually with part of the proceeds going to Guide Dogs Singapore. In 2019 entry fees for the 10km competitive event were $45, fees for the 5km fun run were $38 and fees for the 1km blindfold walk were $68 per pair. Discounted entry fees were available for groups of three runners in the 10k.

2019 Competition

The blindfold pairs walk and the fun run events are not timed but the 10km run is a competitive event. The winners of the 10km race in 2019 were Nimesh Gurung for the men and Hilda Stoney for the women, with finishing times of 32:32 and 42:36 respectively.

Nimesh Gurung was one of the 2019 race ambassadors and returning champion from 2018. Runners up were Foo Gen Lin and Verna Goh Shilei, followed by third-placed Subas Gurung and Jenny Huang. Jenny Huang was also one of the 2019 race ambassadors, a role she undertook to spread awareness for the cause and to inspire more runners.

The winners were presented with trophies and cash prizes of SGD$300, $200 and $100 for first, second and third place, with the fourth and fifth-placed runners also receiving a trophy and some Nuke sunglasses. Crypto Daily was proud to take part in the event and raise money and awareness for a valuable cause.
