Expert Warns That AI Could Destroy the Human Race

AI (Artificial Intelligence) has become increasingly important for the world in recent years. With the rapid advancements in technology, AI has found its way into numerous industries, such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and more. AI has become an essential tool for businesses to streamline their operations, improve productivity, and gain a competitive edge. It has also become an important part of our daily lives, from virtual assistants to personalized recommendations on social media platforms and online shopping websites.

AI has the ability to analyze vast amounts of data and make predictions based on that data, helping businesses to make more informed decisions. It can also automate repetitive tasks, freeing up time for employees to focus on more creative and strategic work. In healthcare, AI has the potential to improve patient outcomes by enabling more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.

Moreover, AI has played a crucial role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues, such as climate change and food security. It can help in developing more sustainable solutions by analyzing environmental data and identifying patterns that can lead to more efficient use of resources.

AI should NOT become smarter than humans

Not everybody is so optimistic when it comes to AI, however. Renowned decision theorist Eliezer Yudkowsky is one of them. He has warned that the current call for a six-month pause on developing powerful AI systems is just the beginning. He argues that if artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence, it could pose a real threat to humanity, according to Bitcoinist. The decision theorist presents his claims in the Time publication.

According to Yudkowsky, building a superhumanly smart AI under current circumstances would lead to a devastating outcome, resulting in the end of the human race. He argues that such a system could have goals that conflict with those of humans, leading to catastrophic outcomes. He has called for a global effort to halt the development of powerful AI systems, prioritizing this over preventing a nuclear exchange, and has proposed international cooperation between rival nations to reduce the risk of large AI training runs.
